The Researcher and Visitor team assists with advertisements and offers of employment for contract research staff.
Before you start your recruitment of contract research staff, please read the Recruitment Policy. The Selection Methods & Criteria will also be useful for both advertising & recruitment.
All forms are available at the bottom of this page. Forms and guidance are regularly updated to comply with changes in legislation. It is crucial that you use the forms available on this website and discard any old versions which you have saved locally.
Advertising
All contract posts should be advertised. The only exception to this is if your researcher is named on a grant.
Please read the Generic Role Profile for your role before advertising. You will also find section 4.2 & 4.3 of the Recruitment Policy helpful.
To initiate an advertisement request, please complete the Request to Advertise form.
Appointments
Once you choose a candidate, you will need to informally discuss the offer with the candidate. Please refrain from committing to a salary, start dates or visa route. The HR Office (Research Staff & Visitors) will send the formal conditional offer letter.
To initiate an appointment request, please complete the Request to Appoint and return with all other supporting documents to hr-research@eng.cam.ac.uk.

Working Visas
Your applicant may need a visa to work in the United Kingdom. The primary visas we manage are Skilled Worker Visa (SWV) and Global Talent Visa (GTV). Further details on eligibility for each visa can be found on the Compliance website and discussed with the HR Office (Research Staff & Visitors).
TES (Temporary Employment Service)
Employment through TES must be viewed as a short term measure only (9 months or less). If you are considering employing someone through TES, please contact the Research and Visitor HR team first. You will then be required to complete the TES Funding Details Form (below) and return it electronically to the team at: hr-research@eng.cam.ac.uk
