The Cambridge University Careers Service provides careers education, information and guidance to staff, students and alumni. As part of your career development, you are encouraged to make an appointment with a careers adviser and will be prompted to do so after successful completion of your probationary period (normally six months after appointment).

Because we are keen for you to make the most of your time while you are working in the Department, we strongly encourage you to set a date with your PI for your Staff Review. You should aim for the first review to take place 12 months after your appointment. This initial review will give you the opportunity to discuss your progress to date and any future career development aims you may have. We recommend that you ask for a review every 12 months. More details on the Staff Review and Development Process can be found here. The review form can be downloaded here. If your project is for a shorter period, your PI will be holding discussions about your future at an earlier stage.

The Postdoc Academy is an important hub for information and support for postdocs in Cambridge.  Their website provides a wealth of useful information including the link to PdOC society which runs social and career development events.

The University and the Department run a number of personal development courses which may be useful to you in your new role. The University's Learning and Development website can be accessed here.  If you are interested in attending a course or training event, please speak to your PI.
